We’re getting lots of calls and inquiries about the new GLP-1 Medicare Bridge program which starts on July 1st of this year and will cover Wegovy (injectable and tablet), Zepbound (KwikPen), and Foundayo (pill) for weight loss at a cost of $50 per month.
We’re currently gathering information and will be posting about it starting this week in our Truths, Tips, and Tricks series.
The most important fact I want to make people aware of today is that although you must have Part D prescription coverage, either through an Advantage Plan or a Stand Alone policy, claims will not be made to those companies. Instead, there will be a “central processor” that authorizations for GLP-1s and prescriptions will be sent to.
We’re still awaiting details on this. My hope is prescribing physicians will be getting information and direction on where and how to send in authorizations and prescriptions. We also hope pharmacies will know how to fill them and charge just the $50 co-pay for a 30-day supply that the program calls for.
Again, stay tuned to this group and the Ask the Medicare Specialist, Aaron’s Advice, and the Truths, Tips, and Tricks series where we will address the GLP-1 Medicare Bridge Program as we get closer to the July 1st date.
