Your PPO May Not Give You the Access You Think

Not all PPO Medicare Advantage Plans are created equal when it comes to access to doctors and hospitals, and it’s far too common for agents and brokers to misrepresent PPOs as being “good anywhere in the country.” That’s absolutely false!

PPOs still have networks. And with the exception an Emergency Room visit, out of network doctors and hospitals are under no obligation to accept your PPO Advantage Plan!! For example, the Mayo Clinic does not accept out of network Advantage Plan PPOs. Period. In addition, with many PPOs, a surgery or hospitalization at an out of network facility can cost thousands of dollars more!

There are a select few PPO Advantage Plans that do have true nationwide in network coverage. So, if you’re currently on an Advantage Plan PPO and spend your summers or winters away from home and need access to healthcare in multiple locations, or if you want to make sure you can have in network access to world class facilities such as the Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, John’s Hopkins, MD Anderson Cancer Center and more in the event of a rare or hard to treat health issue, you must make sure you’re enrolled in the right PPO.

Those enrolled in a PPO Advantage Plan who want more choices in medical providers should consider a Supplement (Medigap) policy that allows access to any doctor or hospital in the country who accepts Medicare. The limited PPOs that have nationwide access are starting to have higher premiums, co-pays, and MOOP while providing less dental coverage and other “extras”. I’m extremely concerned about this trend.

If you have questions or would like to find out if your PPO has a nationwide network or would like a quote on a Supplement, give the office a call,724-603-3403, or email personally, Aaron@GetYourBestPlan.com
