Helping a Client Unlock the Medicare Benefits He Qualified For

I recently had a client who had been incarcerated and, after getting out, was awarded Medicare Part B but not Part A. He had been paying for a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan since October of last year.

After looking deeper into his situation, I discovered that he didn’t have enough work credits to qualify for premium-free Medicare Part A, which meant he would have had to pay a monthly premium for it.

But I didn’t stop there.

I found out that he qualified for Medicaid, which could help cover the costs of his Medicare Part A and Part B. I was able to help him get enrolled in Part A, have the state cover the cost, and then enroll him into a D-SNP plan. A D-SNP (Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan) is a type of Medicare Advantage plan designed for people who qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid. These plans can help coordinate the benefits from both programs and may provide additional benefits and support based on the person’s eligibility.

What made this enrollment feel so good wasn’t just getting him into a plan. It was helping him navigate a process he didn’t even know existed and making sure he received the benefits he qualified for.

There were a lot of steps and moving pieces, but taking the time to dig deeper made a huge difference for him.

This is why I do what I do.
